Obviously there are certain types of diets
that target different food groups, such as low carb, high
protein and low fat combinations, low fat intake and salt

produced over the years seem almost endless. One thing for sure
though, is that without self discipline, motivation and common

Exercise – This is possibly the most
effective (albeit possibly also the most distasteful) method of
losing weight there is. Any exercise regime, however, should be
a carefully thought out plan, not born out of a rash decision
to suddenly “get thin”. The exercise should also be undertaken
slowly at first, not too many repetitions or for too longer
duration. This is especially important if one is overweight in
the extreme, or if one has had a sedentary lifestyle for any
considerable (longer than 6 months?) time

intake reduction – This is effective especially in terms of
eliminating weight gain, however, in order to lose kilos it
needs to be combined with exercise
Carbohydrate reduction – This also, as in the
case of the fat reduction mentioned above can be particularly
useful in arresting gain but, as stated, needs to be
accompanied by exercise in order to be really
effective.
General
food intake reduction – The essence of the meaning of the term
'diet' is reducing the actual amount (grams / kgs ) of food
consumed. Whilst this may seem to be an obvious answer it is
deceptive in terms of logic. Most experts agree that it is not
how much you eat but WHAT you eat that is important. An example
of this is the fact that you can eat 10 times as much cabbage
as any other high fat food and still you will not gain any more
weight for having eaten the cabbage. Food groups and the
different quantity's of those groups is what is
important.
Whatever the method, the best way to lose
weight is going to depend on you, and what works for you.
Remember too, that what may well work for some people may not
work at all for you, or, at least the degree of effectiveness
will vary.
The
main thing is to chose a healthy combination of correct
exercise and correct diet, and to not be in too much of a
hurry. Set your self realistic goals. Small steps in the right
direction, with the successful achievement of small goals is
far far better than attempting to take huge steps and failing
to reach any goal at all.
